Location
Nuns Beach House is in South Rosedale, 15 minutes south of Batemans Bay on the NSW South coast. South Rosedale is approximately 4 hrs south of the centre of Sydney, under 2 hrs from Canberra and a comfortable days drive from Melbourne.
South Rosedale is representative of the best in exclusive, unspoilt holiday environs on the NSW South Coast. It is a small, peaceful, environmentally protected community, located on the scenic tourist drive (George Bass Drive) between Batemans Bay – 15 minutes north - and Moruya – 20 minutes south.
Rosedale was established around the 1950s, but even now the population only numbers a couple of hundred. The unique thing about Rosedale is that unlike many other seaside villages on the Australian coast, the bush is more prominent than the houses. This gives it a really special, secluded feel and it’s what makes it especially popular with people who know about it – and they seem to be mainly in Canberra ! The community in Rosedale is very dedicated to maintaining the quality of their beaches, which form a major part of their lives. Rosedale beach itself is notable for the great rock formations along the beach and headlands, which make for some great rock pools, and the position of Jimmie’s Island, standing between South Rosedale and Nuns Beach, which also offers some protection against the southerlies. There is an historic community boat shed at the northern end of Rosedale beach, which has been in existence since the thirties and which is maintained in good repair by local boat owners. The area seems to be relatively unknown to Sydney-siders, as most tourists either stop at Batemans Bay or continue south down the Princes Highway to places like Bodalla, Tilba, Bega and Eden. As a result, the area is relatively undeveloped, the beaches and waterways are sparkling and unspoilt and often deserted. Its temperate coastal climate means that you can enjoy Rosedale and the surrounding area at any time of the year.
